Hillary W. (Class of '07)
As a SF HEAT alumnus, I feel that I am qualified enough to say that this organization had a significant influence on my home-school high school experience. I had the privilege of playing on the girl’s Varsity soccer team for my junior and senior years of high school, and during my senior year I was honored to serve as co-captain on the team. I have loved playing soccer from an early age, and having the opportunity to play it at a Varsity level with students who also were taught at home, is something I will never forget. The lessons I took away from this experience had a profound impact on me both on and off of the field.
Additionally, I was a member of the Track and Field team (shot put & discus!). The friendships and memories that were made during practices and meets will always have a special place in my heart. The SF HEAT gave me a unique experience which allowed me to build a sense of camaraderie with my fellow home-schoolers and teammates that may have not been attained otherwise.
Even after I graduated high school to attend my freshman year at Virginia Tech, members of the SF HEAT sent me a care package with many kind-hearted and warm messages, which was a lovely reminder of my sports family back in Florida.
