Matt (Class of '13)

​Before I joined the HEAT, I swam at several high school meets as an unattached home school swimmer. While it was cool being a one-man team and holding my own against other teams, I always knew there was something missing. Not only was I unable to swim relays, but more importantly I didn’t have the benefits of an awesome team. I wasn’t part of a group bonded together as a true team, and dedicated to a common goal; nor did I have the support that only a team can give. Joining the HEAT provided all of this and demonstrated to me what a true team is. Many people often associate swimming as an individual sport; and while this may be true, the HEAT has demonstrated that swimming is just as much a team sport. If it wasn’t for you guys, I would have missed out on a great high school experience. I, and I’m sure all of you as well, realize that this team thrives on the bonds between each and every swimmer and the incredible support constantly provided. No other team could replace what you have established.

Through the course of the three seasons I have been involved in the HEAT, I have watched the swim team grow into the finest one I have ever seen and I am proud of what it has become. It has been an honor to be captain of such a fine group of individuals. The constant support this team has shown is something I will cherish and miss forever. I wish you all successful seasons in the years to come.
